My fabulous husband recently upgraded my little point-and-shoot camera to a real camera. By real, I mean one that has interchangeable lenses and shoots manual. So cool! I know absolutely nothing about photography and I’m taking this opportunity to learn.

Today I finally download a trial version of Adobe Lightroom and started playing with it. I’ve watched several tutorials tonight on how to use the program and thought I would post a couple of my trial photographs.

The first one is of my new bird house I got a couple of weeks ago at a herb festival. It’s a really neat bird house; really rustic. This is the first photo that I edited in Lightroom and I think it turned out pretty. It’s much more vibrant, which I love! Plus, I feel like the bird house becomes more of the focal point than in the original picture.

The second photograph was taken at the North Carolina Zoo in Ashboro last weekend in their desert habitat. I thought these yellow flowers would make for good practice both for the camera and for editing. I found a tutorial that explained how to use different saturation techniques, so I gave it a whirl. I like that I was able to mute the tones of the flowers and give them a little more clarity.

I would love to hear what you think of my first attempt at photography!
